Post Surgical PainPost surgical pain is a complex response to tissue trauma during surgery. The result is pain in areas not directly affected by the procedure. This pain can be felt by the patient regardless of whether it was a minor or major surgery. Acute post surgical pain is followed by persistent pain in 10-50% of individuals after common operations. Since chronic pain can be severe in about 2-10% of these patients, persistent post surgical pain is an unrecognized clinical problem. Iatrogenic postsurgical pain is probably the most significant cause of long-term post surgical pain. It is important the surgical techniques that avoid nerve damages should always be applied. Also, the effect of aggressive early surgical operations should be investigated.
