Recurrent Hernia in Obese Patients

The factors that cause hernias to occur include obesity and nutritional disorders which also can encourage the development of a second hernia. Each time a patient needs to go into surgery it becomes more difficult and the risk of complications is greater. To prevent the reoccurrence of hernias it is important to use an abdominal corset in the early post-operative period, avoid smoking, treat any chronic cough before treating the hernia, and avoid straining during bowel movement or passing urine.
