Tension Headache

A tension headache is a condition involving pain or discomfort in the head, scalp, or neck accompanied with muscle tightness in these areas. The headache pain may be described as dull, pressure-like, or a tight band on the head. This pain may occur constantly, daily, or rarely. Tension headaches are the most common form of headaches and may occur at any age. Tension headaches are most experienced by adults and adolescents. Pain may last for about thirty minutes up to seven days. This pain may be triggered or become worse with stress, fatigue, noise, or glare. Tension headaches are rarely accompanied by nausea or vomiting.

Understanding your headache triggers can help avoid situations that cause your headaches. Over-the-counter painkillers such as aspirin or ibuprofen may relieve pain if relaxation techniques do not work.
